CONSEQUENCES

While grieving the death of her mother, Alison, a disillusioned teacher on the verge of a breakdown, finds a childhood diary that records her obsessive friendship with a girl she no longer remembers. The diary ends abruptly on the 15th of May 1971. Haunted by flashbacks from a past she can’t remember, Alison visits Faith, a therapist who promises to unlock her childhood memories. But are Alison's recollections true? And can Faith really be trusted?

Consequences tells the story of three women, unknown to each other but connected by the choices they make. In 1944, radar operator Margaret, released by the war from the confines of her middle-class upbringing, is contemplating what to do about an unplanned pregnancy. In 1965, lonely Christine walks into the local library and falls head-over-heels for the only man in her Writers’ Circle. And in 2004 in Canada, Erin collects a mysterious package for her grandfather and wonders whether to open it. As their stories unfold across the generations, long-buried secrets are revealed, new relationships uncovered, and the unintended consequences of their decisions reverberate through time.

REVIEWS of CONSEQUENCES

I loved how the story was woven together. It provoked me to think of my own journey in life and the stories we all carry. An excellent read.

“

A love story spanning generations; the surprising consequences of the actions people take, and how their lives are forever shaped because of them. An emotional tale, with an ending which I didn't expect.

“

This is a great telling with true-to-life characters, a plot that keeps you guessing and astute, zeitgeist-y observations about how romance, families and life have changed in post-WW2 Britain. A must read!
